Today is K( Veterans day and we will focus on Sergeant Stubby. He was the unofficial mascot of the 102nd Infantry Regiment and assigned to the 26th (Yankee) Division in WWI. He served 18 months and participated in 100 battles and 4 offensives in the Western Front. He saved his regiment from surprise mustard gas attacks, found and comforted the wounded, and allegedly once attacked and held a German soldier by the seat of his pants until American soldiers found him. He is the most decorated war dog of WWI (a gold medal, a wound stripe, and two purple hearts) and is the only dog promoted to the rank of sergeant through combat. A 2018 animated film called Sgt.
